Sprint cars were part of the Governor’s Cup weekend for the first time in several years and Lawson Racing was on hand to race at the Dacotah Speedway on July 30th. A strong field of 19 sprint cars were on hand for the night’s races. I would roll off 7th in the first heat. The hot weather on Saturday made the track very dry. It was tough at times to get a hold of the track. I was able to move up one spot and finish 6th. Kevin would start 8th in the 2nd heat and would go on to finish there. That would start me 10th in the A main and Kevin would start 14th. The track would take rubber almost immediately, so it became a matter of staying in the rubber and not moving off of it. I hung around 10th for most of the race, battling with 3 other drivers. In the end, I was able to move into 9th on the last lap and finish there. Kevin would end up finishing 11th. It was fun night and we can’t wait to race back down at the Dacotah Speedway again.
