This past weekend saw Lawson Racing take part in a doubleheader weekend for the Western ND Sprint Cars. Friday saw us heading north of the border to the Estevan Motor Speedway. This saw sprint cars return to the speedway after nearly a decade away. The weather was in question all day, but the rain would hold off. Kevin and I would be in the first heat. He would come home 2nd and I came home 4th. Kevin would start 3rd in the feature and I would start 7th. My car handling great on the bottom and I moved into 3rd by lap 5. A caution would slow the action around halfway. I would drop back to 4th a few laps after the restart, but would move back into 3rd after the 2nd place car spun going for the lead. I would hang on to finish 3rd after holding off a challenge the last few laps. Kevin would come home 5th. The rain would hit soon after the race finished. Sunday saw us back in front of the hometown crowd at the Nodak Speedway. Kevin was in the 1st heat and would come home 4th. I was in the 2nd heat and finished 7th. That would start Kevin 9th and myself 13th in the feature. At the start, a couple cars got together in turn 2. We were able to avoid them. Once the race got going again, I was able to move my way up to 10th by the time a caution flew around the halfway point. On the restart, I was able to pass Kevin and another car and move into 8th. From there, I was working on trying to chase down 7th place. We encountered some lap traffic, but was able to move around it. I was hoping to catch 7th, but my tires didn’t have any life left in them and then it was just a matter of holding my current position. I was able to do that and finish 8th and Kevin would come home 10th. All in all, it was very fun weekend for us, with some great runs by both cars. Up next for us is the Stanley 4th of July Parade, with our next racing action looking to be the weekend of July 8th and 9th.
