Lawson Racing was a the Devils Lake Speedway on Saturday night for our second race of the season. 28 NOSA sprint cars were on hand for the night’s races. Devils Lake Speedway received several inches of rain on Friday night and worked all day Saturday to get the track and pit area into shape. The track was soft due to all the rain and began to rut up as the races went on. I started on the pole of the 1st heat. At the green, I got a good run down through turns 1 and 2, but got passed out of 2 and went to fall in line going into turn 3 when my car started skipping across some ruts on the low side and spun into the infield. I restarted in 8th and finished there. Kevin started on the pole of the 3rd heat and ended up 7th. We both would end up in the B Main. Kevin started up front while I started mid-pack. At the green, there was some contact with a few cars up front and that caused the rest of the cars for take evasive action. I was on the outside of a car entering turn 1 and he moved to avoid the cars and I ran over his right rear tire. That launched my car off of turn 1 and flipped when I hit the ground, coming to rest on the left side. I was able to climb out the top of the car and walk away uninjured. The car sustained damage to both wings and the left front motor mount broke, allowing for the oil pan to contact the ground and get dented. Needless to say, that ended my night. Kevin was ahead of the wreck and moved onto the A Main. He started 24th. The A main was slowed twice before 5 laps completed due to 2 flips. The track was tough to get a hold of for the feature, but Kevin raced on to a 19th place finish. Not the night we had hoped for. We are now in the process of checking over my car to fully access the damage. The main concern is the engine and if it was damaged when the motor mount broke. We are hoping to be back in action by the first part of July. Stay tuned for updates.

We kicked off our season last night at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. 29 sprint cars were on hand last night. We went into the season with some new setups in our cars and in the heats, the changes were working very well. Kevin started 10th in heat 1 and would wind up 8th. I started 9th in heat 2 and would finish 6th. Both cars were handling very well. They transferred the top 7 to the feature, so Kevin started on the pole of the B-main. They transferred the top 5 and after a few cars fell out, the ended the race early, with Kevin finishing in 3rd. Throughout the night, as the temp dropped, the moisture started coming up and that caused the track to rut up and became very treacherous. At the green, all the cars were very unsettled going into turn 1. The car in front of me got crossed up and I tried to avoid him, but his right rear caught my left front and pulled the hub off the spindle and the tire left my car. Luckily no other cars were involved and I brought my car to a stop off the back straight. I ended the night on the hook, but it is just bolt on parts that were damaged, so that is always good news in a situation like this. On the restart, Kevin avoided a flip in front of him. On the next restart, Kevin once again had to miss a flip. After that, he decided to pull in and save the car. It was a moot point as the feature was called due to unsafe track conditions. A double feature is planned for next Friday, however we will not be able to attend. Our next racing action will be May 31st at the Devils Lake Speedway.
