Lawson Racing completes weekend doubleheader
Lawson Racing completed the first of 2 back to back doubleheader weekends this past weekend. The first race of the weekend was Saturday night up at the Estevan Motor Speedway. Kevin would start on the pole of heat 1 and finish 3rd. I would start on the pole of heat 2 and finish 3rd. That would start Kevin and I in row 3. Coming to get the green flag to start the race, the car behind Kevin tried to jump the start and ended up running of the front of Kevin’s car. Kevin spun out, but kept going. However, his front wing was too damaged to continue and he had to go to the pits without completing a lap. My car was working good in the low groove and I was running around 6th when with 3 to go, I missed the bottom and spun in the slick middle of turn 4. I did do a 360 and keep going, but the yellow came out and I had to restart in the back. I was able to move back up to 7th at the finish. On Sunday night, we were in front of the hometown crowd at the Nodak Speedway. I was in the 1st heat and struggled to get a hold of the slick track. I would come home 8th. Kevin started 4th in the 2nd heat and moved to 3rd off the start. He ran there until a late caution when the leader hit an inside tire and that moved Kevin to 2nd. He would hold that spot on the restart and finish there. In the feature, Kevin would roll off 4th and I would start 15th. I was racing around that position most of the race. I was in a group of 4 cars when 1 of them hit an inside tire and bounce back onto the track. I was able to avoid it by going high. The rest of the feature was a battle to stay on the rubber that was laid down around the bottom. I would come home 14th and Kevin 12th. Now it’s onto the Dacotah Speedway on Friday for their Super Show.
